So you'd like to adopt a Pound Hound...
Please read this before applying to adopt
As a preliminary step to adopting one of our Poundies, we require you to fill out an adoption application form. Because we aren't a shelter and our dogs are in foster care, we don't run on an appointment basis. The questions in the adoption application form are necessary for us to get a better insight into you and your family and to determine whether your family would best match the needs and personality of the dog you have applied for. If your application is approved to go to the next step, we will phone you to have a chat about your desired Poundie and then arrange a meet and greet from there (this is also where any furry family members would be introduced).
We will only match a dog to a home that will best meet its needs and personality . You are not automatically guaranteed a specific dog just because you apply for it. Please do not be offended if your application for a particular dog is not approved - these dogs have already had a rough start so it's really important to us that we get it right for them this time around.
If you aren't willing to let your dog hang out with you and sleep in the house, we probably aren't the rescue for you. Around here, dogs are family and we expect that they would be treated as such. No being banished to a life outside on their own, and definitely no being chained up, so a fully fenced section is a must.
Every one of our Poundies is vet checked, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped with the National Dog Database AND the NZ Companion Animal Register, Council registered and desexed (no exceptions) before heading off to their new home. We ask our adopters for a fee of $320 for adult dogs and $350 for puppies to help towards these costs (adoption fees may vary). We also offer optional free pet insurance for 30 days through Pet N Sur for dogs up to 6 years of age.
All our Poundies also come with a free adoption pack of goodies to start you off on the right track and ongoing support from us. Poundie Parents are family and we're always here to support our Poundies and their forever families.
