Ideal Home: Lucy would do best in a calm and quiet home, preferably with another well balanced and confident dog to learn from. While she adores children, a loud and busy household would be very overwhelming for her.
A home where someone either works from home or is home for part of the day would be ideal for Lucy as she is used to people being around a lot in her foster home. However, with the right support, she would be able to adjust to any new routine.
Lucy would love a home where she gets to go on car rides and out for adventures and hikes - she loves to chase her doggy foster brother when he's chasing his ball and loves to run (although we keep her on a long line for now). So an active family that loves to get out and about and then home for some snuggle time would be fab.
Lucy came into our care as an underweight and terrified 7 month old pup. She was so scared that she would just cower and refused to come out of her crate - even to go to the toilet. We don't know what happened to Lucy before she came to us, but seeing her so scared and unsure of the world was absolutely heart breaking.
But Lucy couldn't have found a better foster family. They have given her so much love and time and done their very best to show Lucy that the world isn't as scary as she thinks it is. It's been a hard journey, but all of a sudden, their hard work paid off and Lucy started to make big strides in her confidence!
Lucy is the sweetest thing. Even with her traumatic start in life, Lucy has so much love to give, and is showing such courage and curiosity every day. No matter how scared she was in the early stages of her arrival, not once has she ever shown any signs of aggression. Not once. She absolutely loves her walks and sniffing new smells as she happily bounds along. She is getting braver with every walk and more curious. She is starting to love the life she is living.
She has started snuggling with her foster dad husband on an evening, while he lies on the floor watching TV. She steals her doggy foster brothers toys and cow hoof - even though hers are bigger. Playing with her foster brother is something she loves to do and he has been a very big part in her coming out of her shell. He has shown her that she doesn't need to be scared of everything and how to have some fun which is why another confident and well balanced male dog in the home would be ideal.
Lucy's foster parents have been working with our trainer to continue building Lucy's confidence in new situations. She is still nervous at time, so will escape to where she feels safe if she is unsure or sacred of what is going on (usually to her crate or her bed behind the couch). She will need hoomans who are very patient and who have the time to invest in her development, training and confidence building. In return, you will get a loving and affectionate, happy girl who thinks she's a bit of a lap dog.
Lucy is great with her doggy foster brother and keen to interact and play with other dogs when out walking. She does not appear to be phased by little yappy dogs either. She has not met cats, but a confident and dog savvy cat may be ok with proper introductions.
She is getting braver with visitors to the house. She now comes out to meet them and will interact if allowed the time to do things at her own pace and comfort level. Due to her anxiety, we have not exposed her to any busy places with lots of people, or loud noises as this would be too over whelming for her at this stage of her development.
Lucy's foster mum says: "With the right support, training, patience, love and encouragement, Lucy will make the most loving and loyal companion. She is such a sweet heart, and just needs that special someone to bond with and give her the life she deserves."
If you think that you might be the hooman to give Lucy her best life, we'd love to hear from you. Because of her timidness, we will require any potential adopters to come meet with Lucy in her foster home a minimum of 3 times to spend time with her, getting to know her before taking her home.
If you can provide Lucy with a fully fenced and secure property, quality food, regular flea and worm treatments, a comfy and warm bed, a comfy couch to nap on and most of all lots of love for the rest of her days, click on the apply to adopt button and complete the application form.
Thanks for checking out gorgeous girl Lucy's profile! We cant wait to help her find her forever hoomans, could that be you?
